Samsung’s One UI 7 is bringing the App Archive feature from Android 15 to Galaxy smartphones. This feature allows users to save storage space by archiving unused apps without fully uninstalling them. The app’s data and settings remain intact, making it easy to restore later.

What is App Archiving?
App Archiving temporarily removes unused apps while keeping their data safe. This clears app software, permissions, temporary files, and notifications, but the app icon and user data stay on your device. You can restore the app without losing progress or settings when you need it again. For example, if you haven’t played a large game in months, you can archive it to free up space while keeping your saved game intact.
How to Use App Archiving
You can archive apps manually or enable automatic archiving for hands-free management.
Manual Archiving:
- Open the app settings.
- Select the app to archive.
- Tap the archive option.
Archived apps will have dimmed icons with an archive symbol, showing they are stored away.
Automatic Archiving: Enable this feature in the Play Store, and the system will automatically archive unused apps to save space proactively.
Restoring Archived Apps:
- Tap the dimmed app icon.
- The system will reinstall the app, provided there’s enough storage available.
Availability
As confirmed by IceUniverse, One UI 7 Beta includes the App Archiving feature. A public rollout is expected early next year. You can check a preview of this feature in action via posts on platforms like X (formerly Twitter).
