One UI 7: A deep dive into Samsung’s upcoming software enhancements

Samsung’s One UI has consistently strived to provide a streamlined and intuitive user experience for Galaxy device owners. With the anticipated arrival of One UI 7, Samsung appears poised to deliver a significant upgrade, focusing on refining existing features, introducing new functionalities, and enhancing overall performance. This article delves into the various updates and improvements expected with One UI 7, offering a comprehensive overview of what users can anticipate.

Samsung Flow: A Renewed Focus

Recent concerns about the future of Samsung Flow, especially after the discontinuation of the Samsung DeX app for Windows PCs, have been addressed. Samsung has signaled its continued commitment to the app by introducing a refreshed app icon with One UI 7. This new icon features a more defined “F” and utilizes a gradient blue background, replacing the previous solid blue. While the core functionality of Samsung Flow remains unchanged – enabling seamless transfer of files, messages, and screen mirroring between Galaxy devices – the visual update signifies Samsung’s intention to maintain and potentially further develop this cross-device connectivity tool. The updated version (4.9.16.6) is expected to debut with One UI 7, although it might also be rolled out to devices running older One UI versions.

Gaming Gets a Boost: Game Booster Plus in Good Lock

One UI 7 is set to bring significant enhancements to the mobile gaming experience through a revamped Game Booster Plus plugin within Good Lock. Samsung has confirmed its commitment to providing gamers with the tools they need, even overcoming Android limitations to deliver a more comprehensive gaming suite.

This new iteration of Game Booster Plus will focus on three key areas:

  • Gamepad Key Remapping: This feature will provide extensive customization options for gamepad controls, allowing users to tailor their gaming experience to their preferences.
  • GPU Detailed Settings: Gamers will gain finer control over graphics settings, including anti-aliasing and texture filtering, enabling them to optimize visual quality and performance.
  • Game Category Changes: Enhanced game categorization will allow for better organization and potentially enable specific features based on game types.

This focus on gaming enhancements demonstrates Samsung’s dedication to providing a premium mobile gaming experience on its Galaxy devices. The integration within Good Lock also suggests a modular approach, allowing users to choose the specific features they want to utilize.

Animated Wallpapers: A Call for Customization

A recurring request from the Samsung community has been the ability to set separate animated wallpapers for the home screen and lock screen. Currently, One UI only allows users to set a single animated wallpaper for both or just the home screen. This limitation has frustrated users seeking greater personalization.

Responding to this feedback, Samsung’s One UI Beta Team has acknowledged the request and forwarded it to the development team for evaluation. While there’s no guarantee of implementation, this acknowledgment suggests that Samsung is actively considering this feature for One UI 7. If implemented, this change would offer a significant boost to customization options.

Galaxy To Share: Streamlining Customization Sharing

The Galaxy To Share app, a Good Lock module designed to facilitate sharing customizations and settings across Galaxy devices, is also receiving an update with One UI 7. The update to version 1.0.69 brings several key improvements:

  • One UI 7 Interface: The app’s design has been refreshed to align with the One UI 7 aesthetic, providing a more consistent and modern look.
  • Routine Gallery Improvements: The Routine Gallery, a central hub for managing automated tasks, has been enhanced for easier management and customization of routines.
  • Bug Fixes and Stabilization: The update includes various bug fixes and stability improvements, ensuring a smoother and more reliable user experience.

These improvements to Galaxy To Share further enhance the ability for users to personalize their devices and easily replicate their preferred settings across multiple devices.

Looking Ahead: One UI 7 and the Future of Galaxy Experiences

One UI 7 represents more than just a visual refresh; it signifies Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the overall user experience through refined features, new functionalities, and improved performance. From the renewed focus on Samsung Flow and the enhanced gaming capabilities of Game Booster Plus to the potential for separate animated wallpapers and the improvements to Galaxy To Share, One UI 7 is shaping up to be a significant update.

The beta program for One UI 7 is currently underway on the Galaxy S24 series, with the official rollout expected in early to mid-February. Samsung may reveal further details about the update rollout schedule at their upcoming Unpacked event. As the release date approaches, anticipation is building for what promises to be a substantial step forward for the Galaxy ecosystem.
