Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, introduces a design that seems a bit puzzling at first glance. Despite being smaller in size than last year’s model, it actually boasts a larger screen.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, compared to the 6.8-inch screen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, according to Samsung’s specs, the new phone is slightly taller, which doesn’t match what you see when you hold them side by side.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is actually shorter, narrower, and thinner than its predecessor, making it more comfortable to hold. It measures 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm, while the S24 Ultra is 162.3 x 79 x 8.6mm. Plus, it’s lighter at 218 grams versus the 232 grams of the S24 Ultra.

One of the unexpected upgrades in the Galaxy S25 Ultra is its speakers. When we tested both models, it was clear that the S25 Ultra sounds much better. Samsung has traditionally improved speaker quality with each new model, but this year’s enhancement was particularly notable. The audio from the S25 Ultra is richer and more detailed than before.
While it’s not clear if this improvement comes from new hardware, software tweaks, or both, there’s a noticeable difference. We observed that the speaker cutout on the S25 Ultra is larger, suggesting a bigger internal space for sound, which might be part of the reason for the better audio.
This sound upgrade, while perhaps subtle, is certainly a welcome change that enhances the overall user experience of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
