New camera features on the Galaxy S25 Ultra

S25 Ultra

Samsung has taken a different approach this year with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, focusing on one significant upgrade to the camera system. Here’s a breakdown of the new features and improvements:

Camera Hardware

The Galaxy S25 Ultra keeps the same 200MP main camera, 10MP telephoto, and 50MP super-telephoto from its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The big change is the ultra-wide camera, which has jumped from 12MP to 50MP.

This new ultra-wide camera has a larger aperture (F1.9), allowing it to capture more light for clearer, brighter photos, especially in low light. The front camera remains a 12MP sensor with an F2.2 aperture.

Better Image Processing

The new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip in the Galaxy S25 Ultra includes an advanced Image Signal Processor (ISP). This, combined with Samsung’s updated ProVisual Engine, uses AI to enhance images significantly. Features like Double Analysis Noise Removal reduce graininess, while the Spatio Temporal Filter helps keep both moving and still subjects sharp.

8K Video Across Multiple Lenses

You can now shoot 8K videos at 30fps with the main, ultra-wide, and 50MP telephoto cameras. However, you can’t switch between these lenses mid-recording.

Default 10-bit HDR Video

All Galaxy S25 models now record video in 10-bit HDR by default, which means videos have richer colors in any lighting condition.

Enhanced Expert RAW

The Expert RAW mode has been upgraded to allow capturing 200MP images, up from 50MP on the previous model. A new “Virtual Aperture” feature lets you adjust the depth of field after taking a photo, mimicking the effect of different lens apertures from F1.4 to F16.

Galaxy Log Video

For professional use, the Galaxy S25 series supports Galaxy Log video recording, which gives a flat color profile for editing later. You can tweak the colors directly in the Gallery app with the “Correct Color” feature for a vibrant look.

Portrait Studio Enhancements

The Portrait Studio now creates more lifelike avatars with options like 3D Cartoon or Watercolor styles, enhancing your portrait photos with AI.

New Filters and Single Take Mode

A new “Filters” feature adds a film-like effect to your photos and videos. The Single Take mode has been improved with a ‘Pre Record’ option, capturing moments before you press the shutter, and a dedicated button for instant stills.

Best Face Feature

With Motion Photo enabled, the phone records a few seconds before and after you take a photo. This allows you to choose the best facial expression for each person in the photo, which is great for group shots or kids’ photos.

These updates make the Galaxy S25 Ultra a strong contender in photography, despite the conservative approach to hardware changes.
