If you’ve missed the latest buzz about the S25 Ultra’s S Pen, here’s what you need to know. Samsung has made a big change by removing Bluetooth from the new S Pen.
The S Pen in the new S25 Ultra still works great for writing and drawing. It has a fine 0.7mm tip and can detect 4,096 levels of pressure, just like before. But there’s a catch.
Without Bluetooth, you can’t use the S Pen for cool tricks like Air Actions anymore. Those were the gestures where you could wave the pen to control apps from a distance. Also, you can’t use the S Pen as a remote button for the camera app now.
Why did Samsung do this? Well, it looks like not many people were using these Bluetooth features. Even though lots of folks use the S Pen to draw or write, not many cared about the extra controls.
So, what’s the good side to this change? There might be one. By ditching Bluetooth, Samsung could make the phone a bit smaller, give it a slightly bigger screen, and improve cooling for the new, powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
Before, having Bluetooth meant the S Pen needed its own little battery inside, which needed space for charging when tucked into the phone. With everything so tightly packed in modern phones, removing these parts can help make the phone sleeker or add other features.
Was this change for the better? Samsung thinks so, and they probably have the numbers to back it up. But, there will definitely be some fans who miss the old S Pen features.
