The first details about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s camera are out, and they’re not much of a shock. Samsung is putting a lot of effort into software improvements for its foldable phones this year, including the new ProVisual Engine first seen in the Galaxy S25 series.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Camera Details
Even though we’re just into the new year, with the Galaxy S25 series already out, our eyes are on the upcoming foldables expected this summer.
Samsung has two new Flip phones in the works. Besides the standard Galaxy Z Flip 7, which they call B7, there’s also a less expensive version, known as B7R. While specifics on the cheaper model are still under wraps, we’ve got some camera details on the main one.
Here’s the scoop: the cameras aren’t exactly groundbreaking. The Z Flip 7 keeps the 50-megapixel main camera and a 12 MP ultrawide from last year. The front camera, unfortunately, remains the same old 10 MP, even though the Galaxy S series moved to a better 12 MP sensor back in 2023.
There’s no sign of exciting upgrades like a telephoto lens or an under-display camera like in the Z Fold series. Those design patents with an extra camera? They might just stay patents for now.
Software to Shine
If the Z Flip 7’s photos get better, it will mostly be thanks to smarter software. We’ll see how the ProVisual Engine from the S25 performs, which could hint at the enhancements coming to the Flip this summer.

Patent Hints at Telephoto Camera for Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung’s patents show a sleek new Galaxy Z Flip with three cameras on the back. Might future models include a telephoto camera?
Since its debut in 2020, the Galaxy Z Flip has seen big changes – bigger cover screens, slimmer hinges, and tougher builds. But one thing hasn’t changed: no telephoto camera, making it the only Samsung phone over €1,000 without one.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 will boast an improved main camera but won’t include optical zoom. However, new patents give hope for future changes.
Two New Designs
The patents reveal a Flip with a hinge that closes flat, a big cover screen, and three cameras – presumably a main, an ultra-wide, and a telephoto. One design has the cameras separate from the screen, while another integrates them into the screen, much like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.
Both designs feature a fully rectangular cover screen, unlike the current models with a ‘lip’.
The camera setup in these designs is vertical, a departure from the horizontal arrangement we’ve seen.
Will We See This in the Galaxy Z Flip 7?
These patents were filed in 2022 and granted before the Z Flip 5 came out with its larger screen and flat hinge. Although the Z Flip 6 won’t have a telephoto camera, these patents suggest Samsung might introduce one in future models like the Z Flip 7.
Remember, though, a patent is just a legal document. The journey from concept to product can be long, or might not happen at all. But it’s clear Samsung is thinking about adding that third camera.
