New security feature for Samsung phones soon

Samsung

In December 2024, Google shared news about a new feature called Identity Check for Android phones. This tool is designed to keep your phone safe from thieves by requiring fingerprint or face recognition to change important settings, like passwords, even if someone knows your phone’s passcode.

At the same time, Samsung kicked off the beta testing for One UI 7, which is based on Android 15, for their Galaxy phones. This version included the Identity Check feature. When Samsung released the final version of the Galaxy S25, it also included this new security measure from Google.

Now, Google has mentioned that Identity Check “will be available on One UI 7 eligible Galaxy devices in the coming weeks.” This statement can be a bit confusing because it could mean two things:

  • The feature might only come with the One UI 7.0 update.
  • Or, it could be that Google is planning to roll out this feature to any Samsung phone that can update to One UI 7.0, even if they’re still on an older version.

We think the first option is more likely, where the feature will come with the One UI 7.0 update.

So, if you have a Samsung phone that can get the One UI 7.0 update, you’ll soon have this cool security feature. However, if you’re using a phone from a different brand, you’ll have to wait a bit longer, as this feature will come to those devices later in the year.
