In 2024, Samsung decided to simplify its tablet range. Instead of launching seven models like the previous year, they only introduced four. They also cut down their high-end tablet series from three to just two models, leaving out the basic Galaxy Tab S.
This year was different for Samsung’s tablets, but the changes seemed to work out well. According to Canalys, Samsung saw a bigger jump in tablet sales worldwide than Apple did in 2024.
Samsung managed to ship 27.7 million tablets in 2024, an increase from the 25.6 million shipped the year before. While Apple still led the market, Samsung’s sales grew by 8.2%, which was more than Apple’s 5.3% growth.
Towards the end of 2024, after releasing the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, Samsung’s shipments jumped. They shipped 7 million tablets in the last quarter of the year, compared to 6.8 million in the same period the year before. Although Apple was still number one, Samsung held a strong second place, significantly ahead of Lenovo in third.
Overall, the tablet market grew by 9.2% in 2024, with the fourth quarter seeing a 5.6% increase over the same quarter in 2023. The year ended with a total of 147.6 million tablet shipments globally, with growth in every region except North America.
Samsung’s tablet lineup for 2024 included the tough Galaxy Tab Active 5, the refreshed Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, and the premium Galaxy Tab S10+ and S10 Ultra. This strategic focus on fewer, but more targeted models, appeared to benefit Samsung in the tablet market.
