Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold might be thin but lose some S Pen magic

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Samsung could be aiming to make its next foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the thinnest one yet. But there’s a catch – it might mean less cool stuff for the S Pen.

Rumors are swirling that to achieve this slim design, Samsung might cut back on some S Pen features. It’s not clear exactly what those features will be, but the S Pen has already lost its special spot on previous models.

The current Galaxy Z Fold 6 is pretty slim at 5.6mm when you open it up. There was also a special version in Korea and China that was even thinner at 4.9mm, but it didn’t support the S Pen at all. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be even slimmer than that.

Samsung has been known to make sacrifices for slimness before. The Galaxy S25 Ultra got thinner, possibly due to changes in how the S Pen works, although some say it might not be directly related.

The pressure to make phones thinner seems to be growing. Other companies, like Oppo, are making very thin foldable phones too. The Oppo Find N5 is rumored to be just 4mm or less. Maybe Samsung feels the heat and wants to keep up.

Keep in mind, all this talk about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just rumors right now. Whether Samsung will really choose to slim down at the cost of S Pen features isn’t set in stone. It’s interesting to think about, but we should wait for official news before getting too excited. We’ll update you as soon as we get more details.
