Unlock your Volvo and Polestar with your Samsung phone

Samsung

Samsung Galaxy users worldwide can now unlock their Volvo and Polestar cars using the Samsung Wallet app. This new feature, known as the Digital Key, will make managing your car easier and more convenient.

Starting this month, owners of certain Volvo and Polestar models in Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia can use their Samsung phones to unlock, lock, and start their cars. This update is part of Samsung’s effort to integrate more services into the Samsung Wallet, making daily tasks smoother for its users.

Woncheol Chai, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, commented, “Working with car companies like Volvo and Polestar is a big step in making life simpler for Galaxy users everywhere.”

The Digital Key in Samsung Wallet works in three ways:

  • Hands-Free Access using ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which lets you unlock your car without even taking out your phone.
  • Tap-to-Unlock with Near Field Communication (NFC), where you just need to tap your phone on the car to unlock or start it.
  • Control via Bluetooth for those times when you’re not close enough to use NFC or UWB, using Bluetooth low energy (BLE).

Since 2022, Samsung has combined its payment and pass services into one app called Samsung Wallet, which Samsung Knox secures. This app isn’t just for car keys; it also handles payments, IDs, tickets, and boarding passes.

The Samsung Wallet app comes ready on all Galaxy devices, and Samsung is working on making this app available in more countries. The features you can use depend on your phone’s hardware, like whether it supports NFC or UWB.

This update not only enhances convenience but also reflects Samsung’s commitment to integrating technology into everyday life, making it more seamless for users around the globe.
