MediaTek introduces two new chips with amazing HDR features

Posted on

MediaTek has just launched two fresh chips for mid-range smartphones: the Dimensity 7400 and the Dimensity 7400X. These are upgrades from last year’s Dimensity 7300 and 7300X models, bringing better battery life and support for Google’s Ultra HDR for stunning images and videos.

Better Battery and Performance

The Dimensity 7400 and 7400X are built using TSMC’s advanced 4nm technology, which helps phones last longer on a single charge. Inside, they have eight cores: four powerful Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6GHz and four energy-saving Cortex-A55 cores at 2GHz. Compared to the older models, the speedy cores are 100MHz faster, giving a nice boost.

For gaming, both chips come with the Mali-G615 MC2 graphics unit, featuring Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0 to save power while you play. Plus, with the MiraVision 955 display processor, these chips can handle sharp Full HD+ screens with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate. They also work with fast LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage.

Awesome Cameras and AI

Thanks to the Imagiq 950 image processor, these chips support cameras up to 200MP. You can record 4K videos at 30fps with steady shots and enjoy 12-bit HDR. They also handle Google’s Ultra HDR format (called Super HDR by Samsung), making photos and videos look vibrant and lifelike. This feature first popped up on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 last year. The NPU 655 inside boosts AI tasks by 15% compared to last year’s chips, making everything from apps to assistants run smarter and faster.

Connectivity and More

These chips come with a 5G modem for speedy sub-6GHz connections, hitting download speeds up to 3.27 Gbps. They also support global 4G LTE and navigation systems like GPS, Galileo, and NavIC. You’ll get Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB 2.0 port too.

Coming Soon

Phones with these chips will hit stores in early 2025, likely before March ends. Samsung might skip these for its Galaxy A56, sticking to its own Exynos chips instead. Exciting times ahead for mid-range phone fans!
