Samsung TVs keep showing privacy alerts to some users

Posted on

When you first switch on a Samsung Smart TV after buying it, it guides you through a setup process. Part of this includes a Smart Hub Privacy Notice, which explains that Samsung collects user data to improve your experience. You can choose to agree or say no.

For those who said yes, their TVs are now sending reminders about this privacy choice. Even stranger, people who picked “no” to sharing data are seeing a message that Samsung will reach out to them in 15 days. That’s odd and unexpected.

Privacy Alerts Popping Up Again and Again

Someone from Dallas, Texas, shared on BlueSky that their Samsung QN65 TV keeps showing a notice about collecting usage info. The alert pops up all day, even over shows they’re watching, and won’t stop even after closing it. They tried saying no to the Smart Hub data collection to stop it. But then, their TV said Samsung would contact them in 15 days. This is unusual and hints that Samsung might be updating its privacy rules.

How to Stop These Pesky Privacy Notices

We tested our Samsung S90C OLED TV in India and haven’t seen any privacy alerts yet. We also chose not to share data with Smart Hub, and no message about Samsung contacting us showed up. This suggests the problem might depend on the TV model or where you live—maybe both. We’ll look into it more and share what we learn.

For now, if these notices are bothering you, here’s a fix: Go to Settings » All Settings » General & Privacy » Terms & Privacy » Privacy Choices » Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy. From there, turn off Smart Hub’s Viewing Information Services and Interest-Based Ads Privacy Notice. That should stop the pop-ups.

Click to opt out and Samsung said they’ll contact me in 15 days. This is flashing through the day over video games, movies, YouTube.
