The folks at DXOMARK recently checked out the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera, and they weren’t too thrilled with what they saw. After testing it, they placed the phone at 24th on their list of best camera smartphones.

Galaxy S25 Ultra Falls Short of Expectations

It turns out the Galaxy S25 Ultra is tied for 24th place with phones like the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and Motorola Edge 50 Ultra. In simple terms, DXOMARK thinks this new Samsung phone performs about the same as Apple’s top models from over two years ago.

For comparison, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra sits at the top with 163 points. Right behind it are the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and HONOR Magic6 Pro, both scoring 158 points. Several other phones share third place, including Apple’s newest iPhones and OPPO’s latest models. However, some big names, like the Vivo X200 Pro—which many people rave about as possibly the best camera phone—are missing from this ranking.

DXOMARK did point out some good things about the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera. They liked the clear zoom shots, especially from far away, and the bright, balanced videos in good light. Photos and videos generally look sharp, and skin tones come out natural in easy settings. Videos also show nice colors and steady white balance indoors or in bright conditions.

More Downsides Than Upsides

On the flip side, DXOMARK found plenty to criticize. The camera struggles with autofocus in video mode and has trouble adjusting exposure smoothly. Low-light videos and high-contrast or dim photos often show noise. Sometimes, colors look off in low light, and the bokeh mode (for blurry backgrounds) doesn’t always work properly. You can dig into more details in DXOMARK’s full review. Overall, they weren’t wowed by the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera—though they had much nicer things to say about its screen!
