Samsung brings SmartThings’ Flex connect to more homes in the US

Samsung SmartThings

If you use Samsung products, you might already know about SmartThings. It’s Samsung’s special system that lets you control all your smart home devices in one place. A while ago, they started Flex Connect, a helpful energy-saving program powered by SmartThings. At first, it was only available in a few spots, but now Samsung is making it bigger by offering it in the US wholesale electricity market.

What Is Flex Connect All About?

Not sure what some of these words mean? No problem—it’s easy to understand. Flex Connect is Samsung’s energy program, also called a Demand Response (DR) plan. These plans help keep electricity steady in your area by encouraging people to use less power when the system is under stress—like during really hot or cold days.

Flex Connect began in July 2024 in California and New York. Later that year, it reached Texas. Now, in March 2025, Samsung is bringing it to PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM), which covers places like the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Chicago area. This means more people can enjoy its perks.

Why Flex Connect Makes Life Easier

Old-school energy-saving plans often need you to do a lot yourself. For example, the government might ask everyone to use less power or even turn it off completely for a few hours. That can be a hassle, always thinking about how much electricity you’re using.

But with Flex Connect, things are simpler. SmartThings devices can automatically lower their power use based on what the electric grid needs. You don’t have to keep checking or changing things yourself. Plus, you get to pick how your devices act during these times, making it way more efficient than doing it by hand.

A Little Bonus for Signing Up

Here’s a nice extra: if you join Flex Connect, Samsung gives you $50 in Rewards points. You can use them to save money on stuff from their store. To get started, just open the SmartThings app, find “SmartThings Energy,” sign up, and choose what works best for you.

Samsung says Flex Connect already helps 32% of people in the US. With experts predicting a big jump in electricity use—15% more in summer and 18% in winter over the next 10 years—this program might grow even more soon.
