Exynos critics cheer over Galaxy Z Flip FE news

The Exynos team at Samsung is facing a rough patch. Last year, the Exynos 2400 did okay, and many thought the new 3nm Exynos 2500 would power the Galaxy S25. Instead, Samsung went all-in with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the S25 series. Rumors then swirled that the Exynos 2500 might show up in the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but that didn’t happen either. Now, word is it could land in the Galaxy Z Flip FE later this year—though nothing’s set in stone. That uncertainty is music to the ears of Exynos doubters.
Samsung Unsure About Exynos 2500 for Galaxy Z Flip FE
A report from South Korea’s The Bell says the Exynos team’s future is cloudy. This year is a make-or-break moment for Samsung’s System LSI group, the folks behind Exynos chips. Their next big hope, the Exynos 2500, is key to their success. But Samsung’s mobile division, Samsung MX, hasn’t decided if it’ll use this chip in the Galaxy Z Flip FE, expected to launch late this year.
With foldable phone rivals from China heating up, Samsung MX is hesitant. Exynos chips have often lagged behind Qualcomm’s Snapdragon ones, and many fans link Exynos to weaker performance. An insider told The Bell, “Plans for the Exynos 2500 keep shifting. I was sure it’d happen, but now it’s looking less likely.”
The Galaxy Z Flip FE won’t hit shelves until months after the Z Flip 7, so Samsung has time to pick a chip. Using the Exynos 2500 might not boost sales, but it could shine a better light on the Exynos team and Samsung Foundry’s 3nm tech. The Z Flip FE should mirror the Z Flip 6 in looks and specs, just with a different chip.
Samsung Foundry, which makes the chips, is struggling to land big customers for its 3nm process. A strong Exynos 2500 could prove it’s up to par. Both Foundry and System LSI are pushing hard to get Samsung MX on board with the 2500, while also cooking up the Exynos 2600 to stay in the game.
