Like WhatsApp, Instagram has a read receipts feature that hints whether a recipient has read your message. If you have checked the message, it will be labeled with “Seen” at the bottom of the text. However, not every one of us is a fan of such functionalities.
We often don’t want others to know that we have seen their text. WhatsApp does allow us to disable the read receipts, Instagram doesn’t have any such facility yet. But it looks like Instagram will soon have the functionality.
How to turn off the Instagram read receipts feature?
As announced by Adam Mosseri in a Broadcast Channel, a test has begun with a limited number of users, allowing read receipts to be turned off in Instagram DMs. Users will find the settings in the Privacy & Safety section below the Vanish Mode.
Though there is a lot of time to grab this capability. By that time you can opt for the below-mentioned ways for effective results.
- Turn on Airplane Mode and log out (check the message in Airplane Mode)
- Restrict the Sender (Tap on their Profile > Restrict)
- Disable Active Status (Settings > Privacy > Activity Status)
- Read the message from the notification panel
