Apple iOS 16: How to use Focus Mode

Apple announced the launch of iOS 16 at WWDC (Apple World Wide Developers Conference). Also, Apple has brought a bunch of new capabilities to its Focus app in iOS 16. Apple focus mode helps you concentrate on an activity by reducing interruption.

This mode of Apple got a larger exposure too, which will enhance the user experience. iPhone’s custom lock screen, including widgets and photos, can corresponding to a particular Focus mode.

This can also change your Home Screen, by showing you the apps and widgets that match the mode your smartphone is in. In fact apps like Messages, calendar, safari, and Siri can be similar to your Focus mode to display the things you need to see at the moment.

For example, in Safari, you will only be able to see your tabs related to your present focus mode, so you will not get distracted by other tabs you might want to look at. Apple also stated that it is also working on an API for developers. This means you can filter third-party apps based on your focus mode that including third-party browsers, or anything else.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the Settings menu
  • Tap focus, and click the plus sign in the upper right to add a new focus
  • If you are creating a new focus, you will get a screen full of suggestions (Gaming, fitness, etc.)
  • The next screen will ask you which of your contacts you want to allow notifications from. Choose as per your choice
  • Select the app you want to receive notifications from. All the other apps will still deliver and send you the notifications, but the notifications will go directly to the shade without any sounds.
  • Push the slider towards the right to allow “Time-sensitive notifications”.
